The 2023 Vietnam – US Business Forum focuses on discussing the challenges that Vietnam’s economy is facing in the context of complicated trade and geopolitical conflicts; US policy orientations and potential areas to promote bilateral economic and trade relations; building solutions to adapt to the shifting trend of the global supply chain, enhancing trade exchanges and attracting investment capital, etc.

Representative of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Mr. Nguyen Hong Duong, Deputy Director of the European-American Market Department, as an expert directly participating in the process of developing policies to promote economic and trade relations between Vietnam and the United States over the past 25 years have affirmed that the potential for cooperation between the two sides in traditional fields as well as new contents such as renewable energy, manufacturing, and education is huge. Speaking at the opening of the Forum, Vietnamese Consul General in San Francisco Hoang Anh Tuan affirmed the importance of international trade and investment to the country’s economic growth and development. The United States is identified as one of Vietnam’s leading partners in all pillars of cooperation. Oregon is known for its leadership in innovation, technology and sustainability. It is a startup hub, has a strong education system, and is home to a diverse economy. The Consul General believes that Vietnam and Oregon have many similarities in strengths and challenges, and believes that the partnership between the two sides can create new opportunities for businesses in both regions.

At the session, guest speakers also discussed the investment environment of both regions, highlighted areas with high growth potential, and shared success stories of companies that have invested in them. these areas; share approaches, market development and capacity building, adapting to technical requirements and regulations of the US market; At the same time, provide solutions to develop import and export and attract supply chains and FDI from the United States; From there, provide recommendations, solutions and directions so that businesses can gradually position and build their business strategies in a systematic and effective manner in the context of intertwined opportunities and challenges; contributing to motivating the business communities of the two countries to build strategies to access and expand import-export markets, promoting trade and investment exchange activities between the two countries in a balanced and sustainable direction.

During the discussion, businesses from both regions had the opportunity to exchange with guest speakers to learn about opportunities, lessons and potential areas for development into large corporations in the future. The forum also devoted a large part of its time to organizing direct connections between businesses with needs from both countries. In the context of Vietnam’s unprecedented decline in exports in the first quarter of 2023, it can be assessed that trade promotion and business connection activities in the Houston area in 2023 are of particular importance, on the one hand helping businesses from both countries have the opportunity to meet directly, while at the same time supporting large US corporations that need to expand their supply chains in Vietnam, attracting US investment flows to Vietnam, especially in the fields of green manufacturing, energy and energy conversion, high technology and precision mechanics, etc., contributing to the stabilization and recovery of Vietnam’s export activities.
